CMS - Saving you time and money

A Web Content Management System (WCMS) is a web application used for creating and managing website content. It is used to facilitate content creation, content control, editing, and many essential web maintenance functions. Put simply, a WCMS allows non-technical users to make changes to an existing website with little or no training.

A Web Content Management System (WCMS) is open-source which means that it can be accessed from any computer, anywhere without having to install software. It is very secure and allows for multiple groups of users to access the system with different publishing privileges. It can be used to manage both static and dynamic content on the site.

Static Content

Static content is content that is displayed on individual pages in one location. For example your website may have an ‘About Page’. This page page may display your company mission statement and Core Values. This information is only displayed on this page throughout your website.

Dynamic Content

Dynamic content is content that is displayed on more than one page. For example your website may have an events section. In this section you constantly updating it with new events every week. These events are posted on this page as well as in teh sidebar throughout your entire website. This allows users to see the events no matter what page they are on. When a user publishes and event on the ‘Events’ page it will automatically display in the sidebar of the website. This is how dynamic content works. Rather than a user having to update the Events page and the sidebar, they only have to update the information in one location for it to appear across multiple pages and sections of the website. With this in mind, the CMS can be customized to display dynamic content anywhere on a website, thus making it fast and efficient for users to make simple updates.

How do you benefit from a Content Management System?

From a technical standpoint, a website with ‘dynamic’ content loads much faster than a ‘static’ web page. Most content management systems also support search engine friendly URLs. Search Engines tend to index WCMS-powered websites more frequently than static sites, since the content tends to change much more frequently. From a business standpoint, you will save considerable money in the long-term, since there is no development expense associated with publishing new content. This, in itself, is a reason many business are re-developing existing websites to include content management functionality.

There are many Content Management Systems.. How to choose?

As far as which solution is best for your company there are many factors involved. We will first take into account the Development Community of the particular software of choice. You will require a solution that is well supported, and will be further developed for years to come.
