Facebook vs Google
Google vs. Facebook
Google recently announced that they are rolling out a new ‘+1’ feature. This will allow google users to ‘+1’ their favourite websites, articles, and even web pages. Facebook’s ‘Like” feature has dominated the Social marketplace in the past year making it imperative as part of your marketing strategy. It’s amazing ability to spread news about products, services, and offerings across the web virally has really taken off. Google will now answer back with the new ‘+1” feature. Here is a video below recently posted.
Google says this is a “public stamp of approval,” and it is exactly that. When you ‘+1’ something, your name is associated with that link “in search, on ads, and across the web,” according to the company. It also shows up in a feed on your Google Profile.
Having the ability for this to show up right in browsers will be a ‘one up’ on Facebook’s Like button and will help the new feature grow automatically. However, the Like button is currently installed on over 2 million websites giving Facebook a head start. It will be interesting to see how this further develops. As marketers and developers we will now be finding ways to incorporate both of these viral techniques into websites and digital strategies.
